The NuNet Project- Transforming Discarded Nets into Sustainable Solutions
Imagine a world where discarded fishing nets, once a symbol of marine pollution, transform into a beacon of hope for coastal communities and the planet.
NuNet is a project by Nuplas Solutions committed to tackling the urgent issue of ocean plastic pollution, with a particular focus on collecting discarded fishing nets to foster healthier seas and repurpose them into premium-quality Nylon 6 (PA6) raw materials.
Recognised by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency known for solving the greatest challenges through innovative science and technology, we are collaborating to develop a research paper that identifies the status of ALDFG (Abandoned, Lost & Discarded Fishing Gear) and its impacts in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Unlike other types of plastic pollution, fishing nets are intentionally designed to catch marine life. And because it’s made from plastic, it won’t biodegrade. So even when it’s lost at sea and completely outside human control, it never stops fishing.
Ghost fishing impacts many vulnerable and endangered animals including sea turtles, seals, whales, dolphins, corals, seabirds, sharks and other fish. In fact, fishing net entanglements are so widespread that they’re now the leading cause of serious injury and death for large whales.
Approximately 640,000 tons of fishing gear are lost or abandoned in the ocean each year.
Over 75% of plastic waste in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch originates from fishing activities.
More than 500 species of marine and coastal animals are affected by ingestion of or entanglement in, marine debris, including ghost nets.

The NuNet Project isn’t just about recycling—it’s about reviving!
We’re on a mission to rescue discarded fishing nets from polluting our oceans and transform them into premium-quality Nylon 6 (PA6) raw materials. But the impact goes beyond circularity—it’s about people, purpose and progress.

The journey begins with fishermen and coastal communities uniting to recover abandoned nets.
From bustling ports to remote shores, these heroes comb the coastline, retrieving the very waste that endangers their environment and livelihood.
Breathing New Life Through Cleaning and Sorting.
Every net has a story. Once recovered, these nets are meticulously cleaned and sorted, ready to shed their past and embrace a sustainable future.
Transformation Through Innovation.
Our advanced recycling process turns these nets into Nylon 6, a versatile material used in everything from clothing to automotive parts. This isn’t just recycling—it’s a revolution.
Closing the Loop.
The transformed material finds its way to global manufacturers, reducing the reliance on virgin plastics and setting a new standard for circularity.
These nets, rescued from our oceans, are ready to be transformed by you into eco-friendly products. Not only do you source sustainably, but you actively participate in cleaning our seas!
Our Nylon 6 pellets, processed from these nets, provide an eco-conscious option for brands committed to sustainable production without compromising quality.
Our shredded fishing nets are prepped for recycling, making it easy for manufacturers to turn waste into new products efficiently and affordably.
With NuNet, we are rewriting this story. What was once waste polluting our oceans is now a valuable resource, empowering fishing communities with direct financial incentives, structured collection support and a transparent tracking system that ensures they are fairly rewarded for their efforts.
This isn’t just about recycling—it’s about restoring dignity, creating stability and building a thriving, self-sustaining future for fishermen and their families. Every net recovered helps protect marine life, reduce ocean waste and fuel a circular economy where both people and the planet win.
NuNet is a project by Nuplas Solutions dedicated to tackling ocean plastic pollution, with a focus on collecting discarded fishing nets. We aim to restore and protect marine ecosystems for future generations, fostering healthier seas and creating sustainable products.
NuNet gathers discarded fishing nets from coastal areas, fishing communities and ocean cleanup initiatives. We work closely with local fishermen and NGOs to identify and collect lost or abandoned nets, ensuring they no longer harm marine life.
After collection, the discarded nets are cleaned, processed and transformed into sustainable raw materials. We offer these materials in three forms:
NuNet works to combat ocean plastic pollution by removing harmful fishing nets from marine environments. We collaborate with local fishing communities and NGOs to create cleaner, healthier seas. Our efforts not only protect marine life but also empower coastal fishermen by providing:
This initiative transforms waste into a valuable resource, restoring dignity and creating stability for fishing communities while fueling a circular economy.
NuNet was founded as part of Nuplas Solutions’ commitment to addressing ocean plastic pollution.
